I’m pretty sure there’s no city in the world quite like Miami.
The people are so lively, there’s an energy buzzing in the air, and the palm trees line every street. It’s no wonder that it’s my favorite city in the world, and I make a point to trek down to the sunshine state at least once a year.
Now that my best friend is in grad school in Miami, I have an even more perfect excuse to visit! Last weekend, we spent four days exploring new scenes and seeing the best of what the city has to offer.
Where should you go when you visit Miami? Read below for my ultimate checklist of places to check out next time you’re in the 305, and stay tuned for more detailed posts coming soon.
I could spend an entire week exploring this neighborhood. Wynwood is the booming arts district on the mainland. It’s about a 30 minute drive from South Beach, and the perfect destination for a day filled with art and wandering. Be sure to grab food at the Wynwood Diner or a juice at Dr. Smood while you’re there, and stop by Oliver Cole Gallery, my favorite art gallery in the world!
Sugar is an Asian-inspired rooftop restaurant and bar located in the heart of Brickell, the downtown business district. The views are stunning – think 360 degree panoramic views of the Miami coastline and Brickell skyscrapers. I highly recommend going at golden hour and watching the sunset.
If you’re staying in South Beach, be sure to take time to stroll along the beachwalk that runs the length of Miami Beach. If you go far enough south, you’ll spot heated beach volleyball matches, the Miami Beach lifeguard headquarters, and endless art deco hotels. Just like Sugar, this beachwalk is especially beautiful at golden hour, when the Miami crowds are gearing up for another unforgettable night. It’s also perfect for rollerblading, biking, or running.
See the 1 Hotel
Even if you aren’t staying at the 1 Hotel, it’s a must-see in South Beach. The lobby feels like a zen oasis, with a completely cream color scheme and endless live greenery. There’s a beautiful plant-based restaurant on the third floor called Plnthouse, and the rooftop is infamous for it’s stunning views and delicious menu. No aesthetically pleasing trip to Miami is complete without swinging by the 1!
