Welcome to The Trial & Error Blog
This is a blog for music educators and creators. You know how people say, “Those that can’t do teach”? Well I am so determined to prove that saying wrong! I truly believe that it is through our creative life that our teaching is exponentially better. Teachers burn out so fast, faster than so many other professions. We need to stay sane, refueled often, and frequently reminded of the big picture in order to give our students the best we can, day in and day out.
Hey there! I’m Emily Faithe
I am a musician and teacher (and frequently a writer). I have spent the past 12 years teaching private music lessons to budding musicians and the past four years teaching classrooms full of middle and high school students.
Even though I have a degree in Music Education from the University of New Hampshire, there are a lot of things that have come up in “real life” that I didn’t feel prepared to deal with.
I needed advice from teachers that have been in the front of the classroom for decades and a community of people that understood.
My goal for this blog is 3-fold:
- To offer classroom strategies for you to teach your students better through science, psychology, experience, and testimony.
- To offer life exercises to keep you fueled, sane, and peaceful. You can’t give what you don’t have!
- Give you a community of other teachers and creators that get it.
Music is suffering in our culture and especially in our schools. I want to ease that burden for you as much as I can.
My Other Projects
My Book: “Music Saved My Life”
In March of 2015 I was laid off from my job and I suddenly had no idea what I was supposed to do next. That allowed me some time to self-reflect and redirect my efforts in my career.
This is the coolest thing that came out of that time, I wrote a book… (that still sounds unbelievable). It was a dream of mine for most of my life and I just decided one day to do it. I learned a fantastic method of brainstorming, started throwing thoughts and feelings into a word processor, and two months later I was holding “Music Saved My Life”.
I uncovered so much about myself through the process of writing it, yet I was still surprised that my readers had the same experience!
Clicking on the button below will take you to the Amazon page for “Music Saved My Life”.
If you want to get a taste of the kind of music that I write, I released a 3-track EP in August 2016. You can stream it on Spotify and buy it on iTunes.

The T&E Vlog
I also ventured into the world of video and started a vlog. It features my challenge to write a new song every day for the month of May, and there’s some other content including live music and personal reflections.
